DAME HELEN MIRREN has a passionate crush on soccer hunk DAVID BECKHAM. The pair met this week (begs21May07) at an award ceremony to celebrate the ‘Greatest Britons’ – and Mirren confesses she was starstruck. The 61-year-old actress tells British radio station Heart, “A soft spot doesn’t really start to describe how I feel about David really and I have done for many years. “When you’ve admired someone and loved them and had a crush on someone for ages you can never quite believe they’ve heard of you but when go, ‘It’s nice to meet you’… it’s so exciting.”

Madonna is planning to adopt a ’sister’ for Malawian baby David Banda, the infant’s grandmother has said.
Ahead of the singer’s trip to the African country tomorrow, Athnette Mwale claims that charity workers told her and her son Yohane – David’s father –Madonna “would return for another child very soon”.
Yesterday Madonna’s publicist vehemently denied that she was planning to adopt another baby.
“She is overseeing the building of a children’s health care centre,” said Liz Rosenburg.
But 57-year-old Athnette told the Sun: “I have prayed to God that my boy will have a sister to play with from his own country.
“When the adoption people came to speak to Yohane about David they said Madonna would give him the best life in the world. And they promised that she would find him a sister, another orphan from Malawi.”
Madonna has reportedly “set her heart” on adopting a three-year-old girl called Grace after seeing documentary footage of her.
The singer’s two children, Lourdes, ten, and Rocco, six, will accompany her on her trip to Africa, which will include an audience with former South African president Nelson Mandela in Johannesburg.
Victoria and David Beckham are still looking for a home in California – because the couple refuse to overpay for a house whose price has been raised simply because the famous pair is interested.
“It’s pretty hard to keep identities secret when you are interested in multimillion-dollar mansions,” a source close to the pair tells PEOPLE. “Once sellers find out who’s interested in buying, the prices skyrocket. It’s ridiculous.”
As a result, says the source. “Victoria and David have still not decided on a house for when they move to L.A. … They refuse to pay above the odds just because they are famous.”
In January it was announced that the Beckhams would move to California after the former English soccer captain, 31, signed a lucrative five-year deal with the L.A. Galaxy.
Since then Victoria, the former Posh Spice, 32, has made several trips to the west coast to check on possible homes for themselves and private schools for sons Brooklyn, 8, Romeo, 4 and Cruz, 2.
Although schools have been narrowed down, the family is struggling to find a suitable mansion. “They will definitely buy in or around Beverly Hills. It makes sense for them,” says the source. “But they will not pay an excess purely because of who they are. They are careful with their money.”
Reps for the couple were not immediately available for comment.
“They don’t want to get stuck in bidding wars. One mansion recently went up by millions once the owner found out the Beckhams were interested,” says the source. “The problem, is they need a big house.”
Wherever they land will be recorded for TV cameras, since Victoria has signed to star in a six-part, NBC reality show that will coincide with the family’s move to L.A.
“They have a lot of work to do before David fVicinishes playing soccer in Spain,” says the source. “Their house in Madrid needs to be sold before they move in July.”

VICTORIA BECKHAM and her soccer superstar husband DAVID have signed a $19.5 million (GBP10 million) deal to star in their own reality TV show. The programme for US network NBC will follow the British couple as they move to Los Angeles later this year (07) when David begins a new contract with LA Galaxy. Victoria’s manager SIMON FULLER says, “The Americans were falling over to sign Victoria for TV. They have taken a shine to Vic’s hilarious humour.

Celebrity couple DAVID and VICTORIA BECKHAM have reportedly splashed out a staggering $97,500 (GBP50,000) in a Los Angeles boutique on soccer-themed decor for their three sons. The couple and their young children – BROOKLYN, ROMEO and CRUZ – are moving to the US city later this year (07) when sports star David transfers his soccer skills from Spanish side Real Madrid to Los Angeles Galaxy. And VICTORIA is so desperate for the family to get behind his career move, she’s ordered a stash of stadium-inspired room fittings to decorate their new house. Staff at children’s boutique Petit Tresor have been lined up to customise the children’s three bedrooms with soccer murals, beds, bean bags and desks. The shop’s co-owner, SAMANTHA WINCH, says, “The idea is to make you feel like you’re in a soccer stadium like dad.” Victoria’s shopping spree also saw her snap up a toy plane, a red leather Hermes nappy bag and five colourful balls for the kids. DAVID BECKHAM’s much anticipated move to the glitz of California has been widely panned by footballing critics as a semi-retirement option, but PR guru MAX CLIFFORD has also warned the superstar and his wife that they have not yet cracked LA’s showbiz world.
Beckham and ex-SPICE GIRLS wife VICTORIA BECKHAM have announced a switch to Los Angeles from their current home in Madrid, after Beckham was left out of much of Real Madrid’s recent campaign, with reports also claiming Victoria wanted out of the country.
And the move Stateside has been allegedly masterminded by Victoria, who is keen to enhance her reputation in Hollywood and close friendships with TOM CRUISE, wife KATIE HOLMES and other Tinseltown hot shots.
But Clifford has told the Manchester Evening News that the Beckhams have their work cut out in America.
He said: “He has gone from the centre of the football world to the centre of the showbiz world.
“There are plenty of shops and television studios. Victoria might even bump into a record producer. Other than that she will be famous for being Mrs Beckham.”
However, Victoria has other ideas after long discussions with close friend and former SPICE GIRLS manager SIMON FULLER, who has already made it in the US, with cameos in DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES and other projects reportedly planned. [ContactMusic]
