The horsey set’s annual rite of spring, the Kentucky Derby, is bringing to Louisville as diverse a crowd as ever has been seen in the event’s 133-year history.
Among the names expected to turn out for the weekend’s festivities and Saturday’s big event: Kevin Federline, Larry Birkhead – and Queen Elizabeth II of England.
“I am so excited to attend the Kentucky Derby this year and am honored that the Barnstable Brown Family personally invited me,” Federline tells PEOPLE. The Barnstable Brown Party, now in its 19th year, is considered the biggest Derby Eve gathering of celebrities in town and the real place to be seen.
“I’ve wanted to go for the past few years, so I am taking the opportunity and going to enjoy attending the race, going to the black tie gala’s and enjoying the whole experience,” said Federline. “It’s such a great tradition, and I’m glad I can be a part of it!”
The expected revelers at the party, whose theme is “That’s Entertainment,” include, according to local TV station WLKY, Kid Rock, Jenny McCarthy, Super Bowl MVPs Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, Olympians Bode Miller and Apolo Ohno, FOX News commentator Bill O’Reilly, actresses Raquel Welch and Cybill Shepherd, comic Eddie Griffin, country singer Travis Tritt and R&B’s Michael McDonald.
Cohosting are sisters Tricia Barnstable Brown and Priscilla Barnstable, with proceeds from their charity evening going to benefit diabetes research in honor of Barnstable Brown’s husband, David, who died from the disease in 2003.
This is also the event where, in 2004, freelance photographer Birkhead met Anna Nicole Smith, the future mother of his child, Dannielynn – who this week is in Louisville with her father, visiting his family.
Among Birkhead’s plans, he has said, was to attend the Barnstable Brown party.
Of course, the main event is Saturday’s race, which will bring out Queen Elizabeth II – and the oddsmakers. As far as they are predicting, the horse to beat is the undefeated and unchallenged Curlin, who remains a slight 7-2 favorite over 4-1 Street Sense, the Associated Press reports.
“We don’t know how good this horse is,” Churchill Downs oddsmaker Mike Battaglia says of the imposing chestnut colt, “but he’s just been dominating.”

Just over a week after reaching a divorce settlement, exes Britney Spears and Kevin Federline were in good spirits over the holiday weekend.
Federline, 29, headed to his favorite stomping ground – Las Vegas. But unlike his last visit to Sin City, this time he didn’t bring the kids, just his close buddies.
“It’s a guys’ weekend,” a source told PEOPLE.
After touching down Friday afternoon, Federline and crew caught a few rays at the Mirage’s private adult pool, Bare, before heading out to dinner at Nobu. Next stop: Jet nightclub, where go-go dancers showered him with fake money to the tune of Fat Joe’s “Make it Rain.”
Just after 3 a.m., Federline and his entourage made their way to Caesars Palace’s Pure Nightclub, where the aspiring rapper spent time in the DJ booth, and then on to the strip club Scores until the early morning.
The next night it was dinner and gambling until 2 a.m. before Federline left town about an hour later to drive back to Los Angeles. “He wanted to be with his kids on Easter,” a source tells PEOPLE.
For her part, Spears, 25, spent Sunday afternoon at a Lakers game, arriving at half-time to cheer on the home team in an auburn wig and a straw cowboy hat before heading to the Lisa Kline boutique for some retail therapy.
After staffers asked customers to leave so she could shop in privacy, she spent $2,000 (plus another $1,000 at Lisa Kline Kids) on items including a camouflage pants-and-top set and Charlie Rocket swim trunks for son Jayden James, 7 months, and Wes and Willy shorts and Converse sneakers for Sean Preston, 1 – as well as dresses and hair clips for herself and a green Moses Basket for Chihuahua Bit Bit.
“She was in a great mood, ecstatic really,” employee Kate Levington tells PEOPLE. “She was lots of fun to shop with. We had music on in the stores and she danced to the music and she ran around and picked out stuff for herself and her boys. You could tell she enjoyed herself.

Britney Spears caused a case of mass whiplash when she bolted from rehab after less than 24 hours – then checked back in days later. The reason for the quick turnaround? An ultimatum from Kevin Federline, a source tells PEOPLE.
Upset by the news that Spears had checked out of Promises in Malibu on Wednesday, Federline scheduled an emergency hearing to seek physical and legal custody of their sons Sean Preston, 18 months, and Jayden James, 6 months, says a source.
Ultimately, Federline, 28, gave his estranged wife a choice: Either she got back into Promises that night or Federline would go to court in the morning, says the source.
(Spears, 25, had since January had custody of the boys, with visitation for Federline, thanks to a temporary court order issued after she filed for divorce in November.)
At about 7 p.m. that night, Spears, driven by a friend, showed up outside Federline’s home in Tarzana, Calif. – followed by some 20 paparazzi. Federline failed to appear, so she left.
When a photographer followed her to a gas station, she became enraged and began whacking his SUV with an umbrella. Later that night Spears’s mother, Lynne, 51, who had flown in from her home in Kentwood, La., to be near her daughter and grandsons, took Spears back to Promises. Says a friend of Federline’s: “Britney scared everyone real bad.”
On Friday Federline – who, sources say, also played a role in persuading Spears to enter rehab in the first place – spent an hour visiting his ex at Promises; the next evening he also brought the boys, and they were joined by Lynne.
“Kevin is working closely with Lynne to let Britney know how serious it is that she gets help,” says one family friend. A source close to Federline notes that “Kevin loves Britney … nothing has changed about that.”
Right now the boys are “being taken care of by Kevin,” says a source. “Lynne is helping.” Eventually, says a Spears family friend, Federline, who will turn 29 this month, “would like [Britney] to have the kids because he thinks she is a good mother.”
But to make that happen will require hard work. A typical stay at Promises lasts 45 days – and Spears “is getting no special treatment,” says her manager Larry Rudolph. “She has a regular room, a regular routine. She is doing exceptionally well.”

Estranged husband Kevin Federline brought their boys, Sean Preston, 17 months, and Jayden, 5 months, to the Malibu rehab center Saturday evening, a source says.
“The kids are his No. 1 priority and they always have been,” the source says. “He’s so stressed out right now. He only wants the best for Britney and the kids.”
This was the second time Federline has visited his estranged wife. He also went to Promises on Friday without the children.
Spears 25, voluntarily checked herself into the residential rehab center on Feb. 20, left the next morning, then returned Thursday night.
The singer’s father, Jamie Spears, 54, told FOX News from his home in Louisiana that his daughter is “a sick little girl. … We’re just trying to take care of her.”

Britney Spears doesn’t miss being married.
When asked in New York on Friday how she likes being single, the pop star, who filed for divorce from Kevin Federline on Nov. 7, told PEOPLE: “It’s awesome.”
Spears grabbed the spotlight Friday while at the fashion show for Baby Phat by Kimora Lee Simmons and KLS Collection Fall 2007, which was held at the Roseland Ballroom in conjunction with Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
Wearing a slinky black spaghetti-strapped dress and black peek-a-boo pumps, Spears posed for photographers upon her arrival, and was escorted to her front-row seat just moments before the show started.
As the models strutted on an elevated stage wearing sexy tweed outfits, double-breasted winter coats and big fur hats for the show entitled “From Russia with Love,” Spears chatted at times with her assistant. She applauded with the rest of the crowd when model Alek Wek flaunted a colorful halter dress that dragged on the floor in the back but was a mini-dress in the front. “Oh my god,” said Spears.
After the show, Spears told PEOPLE of the collection: “It was amazing.”
Kimora Lee Simmons, who was backstage after the show, said of Spears: “Sometimes she gets a hard rap…[But] she is a very talented girl.”

Britney Spears has reportedly won the custody battle with ex-hubby Kevin Federline according to the latest issue of Life&Style.
The estranged couple had their bigwig lawyers hammer out a settlement which has Brit-Brit receiving physical custody of the couple’s two children. The settlement is expected to be finalized within two weeks.
As you may recall, K-Fed had filed for full custody of Sean Preston and Jayden James in a bid for a bigger cash out. Looks like it didn’t work — the hip hop wannabe will receive half of the earnings from the sale of their $13.5 million Malibu estate, $500 000 in cash and all the flashy Bling he collected throughout their short marriage.
The pre-nup also states that Brit has the right to take back any gift she gave to Kevin worth more than 10 grand. You know what that means, right? Bye bye to that $225 000 Ferrari he hooked up last year.[Faded Youth]
